When I was browsing through a magazine, I found this interesting article about some myths that people believe to be facts and those that have been passed on from one generation to another. Can clicking your knuckles give you arthritis? Does sugar make kids hyperactive? Hmmm… not really!! Here are some more of such age old beliefs….

Your heart stops when you sneeze…

…That’s fiction. Pressure in your chest rises as you inhale and drops when you exhale, so your heart rate is affected, but it certainly does not stop beating.

mythsGoing out with wet hair gives you a cold…

…That’s fiction. You can only catch a cold if you come into contact with the cold virus.

Chocolate gives you spots…

…That’s fiction. Acne is caused by hormones and their effect on sebaceous glands, not diet. An unbalanced diet may make the condition worse, but there is nothing to link chocolate with spots.

Cracking knuckles gives you arthritis…

…That’s fiction. A study of knuckle crackers shows no increased risk, but swelling and grip issues may result.

Shaving causes hair to grow back thicker…

…That’s fiction. Stubble hasn’t the tapered end of unshaven hair, so it just looks thicker. (more…)

They observe their surroundings very keenly and this will have a great influence on how they think.  Dealing with children and raising them is a difficult task for the parents. When you’re at the end of your tether, it’s easy to blurt out things you don’t mean. “Terrifying kids might work well in the short term,” says Joe, “but there’s a danger that this will traumatize them and lead to nightmares.” Plus it’s only a short-term fix. “Eventually the child finds out you’ve lied and that will erode their faith in you. It’s essential the authority comes from you, not from some outside force.” Instead, if children do not do as they are asked, Joe advises parents to rely on body language and tone of voice. “Get down on their level, look directly at them and tell them calmly what it is you want them to do. Good eye contact goes a long way.”

Stress at work is a problem faced by almost everyone in this modern era. Job stress is a chronic disease caused by conditions in the workplace that affects the performance of an individual in a negative way and the overall well-being of his mind and body.In the early stages, job stress can ‘rev up’ the body and enhance performance at the place of work. But if this condition stress managementis left unchecked and the body is revved up further, the performance gradually declines and also, the person’s health degenerates.

During these troubled times in the economy — layoffs and recession — stress hormones can play havoc with your system and result in headaches, breakouts, stiff neck, fatigue, weight gain and bloating.
